The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) is closely monitoring the latest developments in Daraa province, southern Syria. It asserts that violations by the Assad regime and its allied terrorist militias continue unabated against the people of Daraa, including the use of heavy weaponry. These acts are clear indicators that stability in Syria is unattainable as long as the status quo persists.
The SOC also emphasizes that the Daraa model represents an unreliable solution that ignores the suffering of the Syrian people and their legitimate aspirations. This model has proven to be a failure, leading to prolonged suffering, increased humanitarian needs, and continued displacement from the province. Moreover, the Assad regime has exploited the instability in the province, turning the region into a corridor for drug trafficking, which poses a threat to regional security and neighboring countries.
The SOC stresses that the only viable solution capable of achieving lasting security, stability, and peace lies in the implementation of UN resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2118 (2013) and 2254 (2015).
The SOC reaffirms that despite the horrific terrorism practiced by the Assad regime against the Syrian people, it has not succeeded in deterring them from continuing to demand their rights and pursue their aspirations for justice, freedom, and democracy. The ongoing anti-regime protest movement in southern Syria is a clear testament to the widespread public will and collective awareness among the Syrian people as they reject the dire current reality and remain determined to achieve their demands, regardless of their backgrounds.
