The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) offers its sincere congratulations to the Syrian people and the Islamic nation on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, wishing that Allah accepts your good deeds and repeat it for all of us in prosperity and blessings, and for our country Syria in freedom, safety, independence and salvation from tyrants.
On this blessed occasion, we cannot but think of the hundreds of thousands of detainees suffering in the hellish prisons and detention centers of the Assad regime, away from their families and loves ones, and who are subjected to the most horrific methods of torture. We also think of the millions of refugees and displaced people, who for years have been living in catastrophic conditions away from their towns and villages, as well as our brethren in the regime-held areas who are living in a large prison where they are suffering oppression and injustice, and lack of the basic necessities of life.
These tragedies confirm beyond doubt that Syria’s true holiday is the day when the Syrian people get rid of the murderous regime and the murderous invaders and terrorist militias it has brought to our country.
The greatness of the Syrian Revolution stems from its inclusion in terms of aspirations and goals, its going beyond all divisions and fault lines, its roots that were watered by the blood of millions of Syrians, its revolving around an all-encompassing national concern, its commitment to the principle of equal citizenship, and its struggle to build a state that respects cultural diversity and seeks to preserve it and pass it on to future generations.
Syria belongs to all its citizens who are partners in this beloved country. Therefore, the struggle to safeguard the rights of our partners in the homeland is certainly the real guarantee for safeguarding our rights in it.
Today, the Syrian people have an opportunity to restore the spirit that filled Syrian cities, towns and villages during the peaceful anti-regime demonstrations by reviving the Syrian revolutionary movement throughout Syria, especially in the liberated areas. There is a pressing need for the revival of the Friday demonstrations as we must continue to hammer home our demands and aspirations for freedom and independence.
Today we are facing an insidious project that aims to rehabilitate the Assad regime after its military approach failed to quell the revolution.
The SOC warns of any more steps to reestablish ties with the regime as it reaffirms that such steps constitute explicit support for the criminals and a violation of international law and UN resolutions, in addition to amounting to true partnership in the regime’s crimes. We remind everyone that the true interests of peoples, states and homelands cannot be served allying and cooperating with criminals, perpetrators of massacres, atrocities and violations.
Likewise, the Syrian people rejects the elections farce that the Assad regime intends to hold as we affirm that the only acceptable elections are the ones that are fully consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and in which there is no place for war criminals and killers, chief among them is the criminal Bashar al-Assad.
These elections, in addition to being farcical, constitute a violation of the right of the Syrian people as there is no effrontery bigger than forcing Syrians whose homes were destroyed, their land stolen, their children killed, and who were displaced to vote for the regime out of the fear for their families and themselves from arrest by the regime.
We reaffirm that the Syrian people stand with their brethren in occupied Palestine as we stress the need for serious international action to put an end to the occupation’s aggression against Al-Aqsa Mosque and all Palestinian cities, especially Jerusalem and Gaza, and to end the occupation’s unjust policies against the Palestinian people. We also reaffirm the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to their land and to establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, which will remain a Palestinian Arab land.
We salute the mothers of the fallen heroes, the detainees and their families.
We salute all the Syrian revolutionaries as well as the revolutionary forces and institutions.
We wish you happy, blessed Eid as we wish that Allah repeat it for our country and nation in victory and freedom.
