The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) mourns Major General Mahmoud Ahmed Ali who passed away on Tuesday. He was a commander of the internal security in the Syrian revolution.
Born in the town of Ayn al-Fijah in the Damascus suburbs in 1954, Ali held the positions of head of the criminal security branch in Dara’a province, director of Douma region, chief of the police in Suwayda and Deir Ezzor provinces, and head of the studies and planning office in the Ministry of Interior. He defected from the Assad regime in early 2013, announcing he was joining the Syrian people and their great revolution.
Following his defection, Ali sought to organize defecting officers from the internal security and police forces into a number of bodies. He then worked with the Ministry of Interior in the Syrian Interim Government, contributing through his extensive experience to the development of the Ministry’s work and the organization of police work.
The SOC expresses its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Ali, praying that Allah grant him mercy, forgiveness, and the highest place in paradise.
