The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) mourns the passing of prominent Syrian Islamic scholar and Quran interpreter Muhammad Ali Al-Sabouni who passed away in the Turkish city of Yalova on Friday at the age of 91, a lifetime that he spent in preaching and Islamic studies.
The late Al-Sabouni stood with the Syrian revolution since day one, having declared his support for the Syrian people in their revolution against injustice, tyranny and oppression. He took honorable stances during the course of the Syrian revolution, and was one of the SOC’s founders as Chairman of the Association of Syrian Islamic Scholars.
Widely considered as one of the most prominent Islamic scholars of our time, Al-Sabouni left behind a legacy written in dozens of books and studies in the service of the Holy Quran and Islamic jurisprudence studies. He also taught thousands of students, including many prominent Islamic scholars and professors.
Al-Sabouni was also a distinguished ambassador of Syria to the world by virtue of his encyclopedic knowledge, thought and works. He also taught thousands of students in many countries around the world, with his books being taught in most Islamic universities around the world.
May Almighty Allah have mercy on him while giving his family and loved ones peace and solace.
Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him do we return.
