The Syrian Opposition Coalition extends its sincere condolences to the Turkish people and Islamic nation on the death of the renowned scholar Sheikh Mahmut Ustaosmanoğlu, also known as Mahmut Effendi, who passed away at the age of 93 in Turkey on Friday. We ask Allah to have mercy on him and forgive him.
The late Sheikh Effendi was a beacon in Islamic sciences, the Noble Qur’an and Arabic language. He was also one of the leaders of the Islamic Renaissance, a senior scholar in Turkey, and a teacher of many sheikhs and imams. Paving the way for later generations with his vast knowledge, he was also known for his honorable stances towards the Islamic nation and for supporting the Syrian people in their revolution against tyrants.
We ask Allah to have mercy on him and forgive him and accept his deeds. We once again extend our heartfelt condolences to the Turkish people, the Sheikh’s students, and his family and lovers.
Surely we belong to God and to Him we shall return.
