December 8, 2024
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) congratulates the great Syrian people on the liberation of Syria from the criminal Assad regime. After 14 years of peaceful and armed struggle, of chants and bullets, the Syrian people have fought for freedom, dignity, democracy, justice, and a safe and decent life. The SOC announces that December 8, 2024, will be commemorated annually as a national holiday in Syria, marking the victory of the people, the triumph of detainees, displaced persons, and the oppressed, and the victory of truth and justice over tyranny and injustice.
The great Syrian revolution has shattered decades of oppression and authoritarian rule, paving the way for a new birth of a proud Syria. Today, the revolution transitions from the struggle to topple the Assad regime to the struggle to rebuild Syria in a way that honors the sacrifices of its people. We urge our people across all Syrian cities to safeguard public property, buildings, and facilities of all kinds, as they belong to the people, not to Bashar al-Assad’s terrorist regime.
The SOC reaffirms to the international community its commitment to completing the transfer of power to a transitional governing body with full executive powers, paving the way for a free, democratic, and pluralistic Syria. The SOC emphasizes its dedication to maintaining the safety and security of neighboring countries and avoiding any interference in their internal affairs. Furthermore, it looks forward to building strategic partnerships with the countries of the region and beyond to rebuild Syria as a homeland for all its citizens, regardless of their ethnicities, religions, or sects.
