The General Assembly of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces held presidential elections in Istanbul, on January 5-6, 2014. President Ahmad al-Jarba was re-elected president, while Abdul Hakim Bashar, Farouq Tayfur, and Noura Alameer were elected vice presidents. Badr Jamous was also re-elected secretary general of the Coalition.
All elected candidates will serve a term of six months. President Ahmad al-Jarba reiterated his commitment to the values and guiding principles of the Syrian revolution. He reaffirmed his pledge to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people and work towards building a democratic, pluralistic state where “equal rights for all and special privileges for none” will be a defining feature.
Later on today the General Assembly will elect 14 members to form in addition to the 5 member presidential body the Coalition’s political committee of 19 members.
