The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) expresses its full support for the recent United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The resolution, which was overwhelmingly adopted on Thursday, coincided with the first anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In addition to its support for the UN resolution, the SOC is calling for additional measures to rein in Russia in Ukraine and Syria. The SOC recognizes that Russia’s crimes, in partnership with the Assad regime and Iran, have killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions in both Syria and Ukraine. The SOC is urging the international community to unify their efforts and take decisive action to ensure the defeat of this criminal alliance, which poses a grave threat to international peace and security.
The SOC demands that there be no separation between the atrocities Russia is committing in Ukraine and its crimes in Syria. The international community must shoulder its responsibilities towards the Syrian people and effectively pressure to rid them of the long tragedy caused by the Assad regime, along with Russia and Iran.
