Whole Towns in Idlib Province Deserted due to Intensified Regime Shelling

The local councils in the towns of Jarjanaz and Tamana’a in southern rural Idlib on Wednesday declared the two towns disaster areas as a result of constant rocket and artillery shelling by the Assad regime and Russian forces.

“We declare the town a disaster area and completely deserted as a result of the fierce rocket and artillery shelling on civilians and public facilities by the Assad regime and Russia,” said the local council in Jarjanaz in a statement.

The council added: “The town has been subjected to relentless shelling by the Assad regime checkpoints which operate under Russian cover.” On Monday, the local council in the town of Al-Teeh declared the town as disaster area as a result of the systematic, violent shelling by regime forces.

Local activists said that a child was killed and three others were wounded in rocket shelling by the Assad regime forces on the town of Jarjanaz on Wednesday. The injured were rushed to nearby medical centers for treatment as the shelling targeted civilian homes in the town.

The two local councils called on civil society organizations to provide urgent assistance to the people affected by the shelling and to assume their responsibility with regards to the displaced people.

The province of Idlib has been subjected to intensified rocket and artillery shelling by the Assad regime and Russian forces although the area is covered by the Idlib agreement. The shelling is causing many casualties among civilians.

The Syrian Coalition earlier condemned the regime’s artillery shelling on the populated areas as it called on the international community to deter the Assad regime forces and hold to account those responsible for repeated violations and war crimes against civilians.
