The Syrian National Coalition’s political committee on Friday held an important meeting to discuss the agreement to suspend military operations east of the Euphrates River and the latest developments in the work of the Constitutional Committee.
The meeting brought together the Coalition President Anas Al-Abda, Head of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Nasr Al-Hariri, Head of the Syrian Interim Government, Abdurrahman Mustafa, and the Joint Chairman of the Constitutional Committee Hadi Al-Bahra.
The political committee welcomed the agreement to suspend military operations east of the Euphrates and establish a safe zone. It stressed that the agreement will have a positive role in achieving the goals of the military operation without any suffering or incurring losses.
SIG’s Head Abdurrahman Mustafa reaffirmed that SIG stood ready to start the work east of the Euphrates. He gave an overview of SIG’s plans in the areas of security and stability in that region, especially following the remarkable progress in the unification of the armed opposition groups and their incorporation into the Syrian National Army. He also talked about SIG’s plans to provide essential services and improve education and health.
Al-Hariri and Al-Bahra briefed the meeting on the final preparations for the first round of the work of the Constitutional Committee scheduled for late October at the United Nations Office at Geneva.
They stressed that preparations for the first round of discussions have been completed. They said that the representatives of the Syrian Negotiations Commission in the Constitutional Committee have already laid out visions of the basic rights and freedoms, security and military institutions, the electoral process, the mandate of the legislative, judicial and executive powers and ways to ensure their independence and that there is a separation between these powers.
