The Russian air force has intensified aerial attacks on rebel-held areas in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia. Yesterday, the Russian air strikes targeted grain silos in Raqqa, the town of Binnish, relief aid convoys in the town of Sarmada in rural Idlib and the town of Azaz north of Aleppo.
Vital civilians facilities are not spared the Russian bombing which targeted a water treatment plant near the town of Maskanah east of Aleppo, a marketplace in the town of Awijil east of Aleppo, and a bus station in the town of Al-Dana in rural Idlib. The air raids left dozens of civilian casualties.
The Russian air force also stepped up airstrikes on Al-Akrad and Al-Turkmen Mounts in rural Latakia, targeting mainly the FSA positions along with artillery rocket shelling by regime forces.
Secretary-General Mohammed Yahya Maktabi stated that Russia’s repeated bombing of relief aid convoys is a terrorist act that contravenes Russia’s position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Maktabi added that Russian behavior is pure aggression targeting mainly innocent civilians and relief aid convoys. It is also directed against the FSA allowing ISIS to gain ground and advance on the liberated areas.
Member of the Syrian Coalition Hawas Khalil senses that Russia’s intervention is designed solely to help Assad crush the revolution after Iran and Hezbollah failed to do so.
Khalil calls upon the UN Security Council to condemn Russia’s practices and put pressure on it to stop its aggression against Syrian children, women, and more recently on relief aid convoys. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
