The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s Caesar Act Follow-up Team held its weekly meeting to discuss the latest preparations for the implementation of the Act which will take effect on June 17.
Coordinator of the Team, Abdel Majeed Barakat, pointed out that the meeting focused on the aspects of the Act that are key to protecting civilians and deterring the Assad regime, its allied sectarian militias, and backers from committing more crimes against Syrian civilians.
Barakat pointed out that the Team discussed the mechanisms of action to determine the parties that are working with the regime; helping it circumvent the sanctions; and supplying it with fighters and weapons.
Barakat stressed that the Act mainly aims to protect civilians, contrary to claims by the Assad regime and its backers, adding that the Act does not affect food or medical supplies.
He made it clear the implementation of the Act coincided with the European Union’s renewal of sanctions against the Assad regime, adding that this helps further besiege the regime and prevent impunity for crimes. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
