Nasr al-Hariri, Secretary General of the Syrian Coalition, condemns the assassination of the rebel leader Kamal al-Hamwi (nicknamed Abu Wael al-Homsi) north of Homs. Al-Hamwi was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in the town of Talbeesa and was taken to an unknown destination. His body was later found in the village of As-Saan east of Talbeesa. Abu Wael was a prominent rebel commander who fought in most of the battles that took place in the Old City of Homs, inflicting heavy losses on regime forces. In May his group retreated to northern after they ran out of ammunition and food supplies as a result if the crippling siege imposed by regime forces on the city’s old quarter.
