President of the Syrian Coalition Anas al-Abdah said that the Coalition totally rejects the unilateral declaration of a federal region in northern Syria. Abdah described the declaration as void and will not reflect positively on the situation in Syria.
“No party or any single component can take such a unilateral decision as the right to do so is owned by Syrian people as a whole. One of the primary goals of the Syrian revolution is to enable the Syrian people to freely decide the shape of their country without influence from any side,” Abdah stressed.
Member of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Hamid Tammo said that the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its allies declared the establishment of self-management in northeastern Syria when they were not invited to the Geneva II conference in 2014, announced the forming of the so-called Syria’s Democratic Forces when they were not invited to the Riyadh opposition conference, and declared the so-called federal system when they were not formally invited to the current Geneva III conference.
Tammo said that the PYD’s declaration of the establishment of a federal system in Syria does not have any value and is merely a publicity stunt as the Assad regime still retains a presence in the areas where the federal system was announced, namely in al-Qamishli and Al-Hasaka.
Tammo went on to say that the PYD allies; most notably the Syriac Union and the Arab tribes are proxies of the Assad regime as they serve its interests.
“The federal project in Syria was originally devised by Russia and Iran. The United States announced it would not recognize such projects because they are illegal. The United Sates also use the so-called Syria’s Democratic Forces as just mercenaries in the fight against ISIS,” Tammo added. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
