The Syrian Coalition approved the formation of the Interim Syrian Olympic Committee with the aim of incorporating all Syrian athletes and sports organizations inside and outside Syria into one body. The committee will represent Syria in the Arab and international sports events and tournaments.
Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Ilah Alfahd said that many Syrians athletes have proved able to compete regionally and internationally when they receive necessary support. He added that the formation of the committee came to prevent the loss of talent among many Syrian athletes. The committee will serve as a sponsor for Syrian athletes.
Secretary-General of the committee Ahmed Alali said the establishment of the committee is aimed at creating an official and legal body that will then allow for the formation of various sports associations. He added that the next move will see the election of members of the Olympic committee that will bring together all Syrian athletes.
Alali, a coach and international karate referee, pointed out that the committee will formally as well as legally oversee sports activities and the participation of Syrian athletes in the Arab and international sports events. He added that founders of the committee have been reaching out to Arab and international sports institutions, most notably the International Olympic Committee, the Arab League and the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Interim Syrian Olympic Committee is composed of a president, Mudar Alasaad, a vice president, Bassam Harratah, secretary general, Ahmad Alali, and members Adnan Qaddour, Ayman Qashit, Hassan Darwish, Khalid Faraj, Talal Almujbeil, and Manar Shaleesh. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
