Secretary of the Syrian Opposition Opposition’s (SOC) political committee, Riyad Al-Hassan, said that the Assad regime persists with the same policies it has pursued since the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011 to eradicate Syrian citizens who reject its rule.
Al-Hassan pointed out that the Assad regime’s recent decision to prevent Syrian citizens from entering Syrian territories if they don’t exchange 100 US dollars for Syrian pounds plays into the homogeneity theory Assad introduced years ago. The decision also aims to export the crisis to neighboring countries and beyond in an attempt to force the international community to reaccept it in its fold.
Al-Hassan added that the Assad regime has resorted to brutal methods in order to reach this vision, from mass killings to besiegement, starvation, mass forced displacement, to demolition of civilian homes. He also said that these tactics were accompanied by a series of unfair laws that aims to consolidate demographic change, such as the infamous anti-terrorism law targeted at silencing political dissidents and the many laws aimed at confiscating the property of displaced people and refugees.
Al-Hassan stressed that the Assad regime’s latest decision is a new tactic to extort Syrian civilians and generate revenues to fund its military operations and pay its mercenaries and foreign militias. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
