President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, received commanders of the Syrian National Army (SNA) at the SOC’s office in rural Aleppo. The meeting came amid ongoing military escalation by the Russian forces which launched airstrikes on the Duwaila region in rural Idlib on Monday, killing dozens of SNA fighters as well as civilians.
Participants in the meeting discussed the implications of the Russian airstrikes and their risks to the existing ceasefire agreement in the region which was reached in the Russian city of Sochi in March, especially in light of the indications of a new regime offensive in the region.
Al-Hariri said that the SOC will coordinate with its partners, especially Turkey and the United States, to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.
He pointed out that Russia is seeking to help the Assad regime find pretexts to launch a new military operation in the region and to proceed with the military solution.
He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities with regard to preserving the ceasefire agreement and revitalizing the political process to reach a political solution in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions, especially the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolution 2254.
