SOC’s Political Committee Holds Regular Meeting to Discusses Major Issues

April 6, 2021
in Coalition News

The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its periodic meeting under the chairmanship of SOC’s President Nasr Al-Hariri to discuss the latest on the ground and political developments as well as the reports that the SOC’s departments, offices and committees submitted on their work and activities in the past period.

Al-Hariri gave an overview on the results of the meetings that the SOC held in recent weeks, pointing out that these meetings focused on pushing the political process forward and renewing the UN resolution on the cross-border delivery of humanitarian aid into Syria.

Al-Hariri talked about the tour that the SOC conducted in east of the Euphrates and the meetings it had held with officials and leaders of local councils, the military and civil police forces, and services institutions in the towns of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn. He also talked about the visit to the Mar Touma church as he commended the administrative, governmental and military models the SOC’s delegation saw in the region.

Moreover, Al-Hariri said that the tour provided an opportunity to ascertain the reality of the situation of the region, stressing the need to address the shortcomings and settle the grievances expressed by the population.

The political committee also discussed mechanisms to review the legal system by reviewing the legislation of the Syrian state, removing everything related to authoritarian policies, and developing the legal system to achieve justice and meet the aspirations of the Syrian people.

It also discussed the completion of the constitutional provisions as it reviewed two papers on the executive and the legislative authorities within the framework of drawing up a comprehensive constitutional vision and supporting the delegation of the Syrian Negotiations Commission in the work of the Constitutional Committee.

Coordinator of the SOC’s Department of Refugee Affairs, Adnan Rahmoun, presented a study on the rights of the internally displaced people to participate in the elections of local council. The political committee recommended organizing joint workshops to amend the regulations and laws in this regard.

Furthermore, participants reviewed the results of the meetings with the Kurdish National Council as well as the visits and activities the SOC’s delegation held in the liberated areas.

The committee made a decision to create the Central Commission for Oversight and Inspection. It also decided to assign the Syrian Interim Government to study the establishment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Members of the political committee and presidential body discussed the work of the Committee for Redressing the Grievances, stressing the need to expand its scope of work to cover all the liberated areas in northeast of the Euphrates. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
