The 56th session of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) General Assembly begun on Thursday simultaneously in the town of Azaz in northern rural Aleppo and Istanbul via a video link.
SOC’s president Nasr al-Hariri gave an overview on the political and field developments as he stressed the SOC’s rejection of the elections farce that the Assad regime is conducting in violation of UN resolutions.
Al-Hariri stressed the need to implement UN resolutions on Syria, most importantly the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254 in order to achieve a political transition and establish a transitional governing body.
The SOC’s vice-presidents and Secretary-General submitted reports on their work to the General Assembly which also reviewed reports by the Syrian Interim Government, the Assistance Coordination Unit and the Syrian Recovery Trust Fund. The political committee presented its decisions for discussion and approval.
The General Assembly also discussed the conditions of the IDPs and ways to meet their needs in the liberated areas, and to follow up on the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus.
The General Assembly will conclude its current session on Friday. It will review the reports by the SOC’s offices, departments and committees, as well as the Syrian Negotiations Commission and the Constitutional Committee. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
