The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) Department of Refugee Affairs submitted its work report to the political committee on Thursday. The report detailed the conditions of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) who reside in camps in northwestern Syria.
According to the report, the overwhelming majority of IDPs, who were displaced by the Assad regime, live in semi-official camps and unofficial settlements along the border with Turkey.
The Department stressed that the camps are not a real solution, nor do they come close to a solution on the long run. Residents of these camps are facing many problems, such as severe weather conditions, psychological and health problems, and lack of privacy and a normal social life.
The report included numbers of the IDPs as well as the conditions and locations of the camps. It also listed the services being provided and the necessary needs.
The Department called for referring the report to the Syrian Interim Government in order to include these camps in its action plan. It recommended the formation of a ministry or a special body to supervise the conditions inside the IDPs camps; follow the conditions of the IDPs; and solve their problems.
