The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its regular meeting to discuss the latest field and political developments in Syria. It condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the violation of its territory and sovereignty. In attendance was SOC’s President Salem Al-Meslet.
Al-Meslet called on the world to decisively confront the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and said: The Syrian people are well aware the tragedies and woes that wars bring, and of the bitterness of international betrayal. We therefore stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people as they resist the Russian aggression and valiantly defend the unity and sovereignty of their country.”
Al-Meslet added: “The Syrian people do not want to witness more Russian criminality or more international inaction in any new part of the world in view of the suffering that they have been enduring at the hands of Russia. We call on the EU and US to intervene immediately to stand up to Putin and confront his ambitions that will not stop at the borders of Ukraine.”
The SOC’s Offices of Studies, Documents, and Strategic Studies gave an overview on the Ukrainian crisis and its ramifications for the situation in Syria. The political committee affirmed the Syrian people solidarity with the Ukrainian people and their support for them in resisting the Russian aggression.
Representatives of the military bloc in the SOC gave an overview on the field situation and the latest developments on the ground in the liberated areas, especially the shelling on the town of al-Bab by Assad’s militias and their backers.
