Jamous and al-Bahra Hold International Meetings in Geneva to Revitalize Political Process

President of the Syrian Negotiations Commission, Badr Jamous, and Co-chair of the Constitutional Committee, Hadi al-Bahra, held a number of international meetings in the Swiss city of Geneva in order to discuss ways to revitalize the political process and reach a political solution in accordance with UN resolution 2254 and achieve the Syrian people’s aspirations for freedom, dignity and democracy.

In comments he posted on Twitter, Jamous said that he met Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs at the US State Department, Ethan Goldrich, and discussed with him ways to revive the political process and implement all provisions of UN Resolution 2254, including a just political transition, and the existence of a clear mechanism for implementing the resolution and preventing the regime from further obstructing the political process.

Jamous and al-Bahra stressed the need to continue the efforts to hold accountable the regime’s criminals and all those involved in torture of Syrians and stealing their money and rights, stressing that a just solution in Syria should guarantee justice for all Syrians.

Jamous pointed out that Mr. Goldrich reaffirmed his country’s continued support for the rights of the Syrian people and that Washington opposes normalization of relations with the Assad regime. Mr. Goldrich also stressed that the US is making efforts to implement UN Resolution 2254 and push the political process forward with serious steps in order to reach a political solution in line with UN resolutions.

Jamous and Al-Bahra also met with Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khulaifi and discussed with him the importance of maintaining the sanctions and pressure on the Assad regime to force it to seriously engage in a political transition process. He thanked the Qatari government and people for their continuous support for the Syrian revolution and the Syrian people.

Jamous and Al-Bahra also met with the new German special envoy for Syria, Stefan Schneck, and discussed with him ways to advance the political process and implement UN Resolution 2254. They conveyed to him the Syrian people’s aspiration for greater German contribution to getting rid of tyranny in Syria. For his part, Mr. Schneck stressed Germany’s continued support for the Syrian people and their aspirations for freedom, dignity and democracy.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
