President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, decried the persistent targeting and bombing of civilians in the city of Idlib, characterizing it as a continuation of the regime’s reprehensible approach to committing war crimes. Al-Bahra emphasized that this relentless assault perpetuates a grim atmosphere of death and destruction that looms over Syrian skies.
Al-Bahra underscored the alarming nature of these attacks, asserting that the Assad regime’s ongoing bombing of civilians flagrantly disregards international laws. It conveys a blatant message to the United Nations, its Security Council, and the international community – a message that seems to disregard their resolutions and decisions. This, Al-Bahra argued, serves as a response to their silence regarding the heinous crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the regime on a daily basis.
Moreover, Al-Bahra dismissed the notion that security and military solutions could be imposed, stating that those who believe in such an approach are mistaken. He also challenged the idea that neglecting the rights and aspirations of Syrians in international forums could diminish the determination of Syrian men and women to reclaim their human and legal rights, attain justice, hold war criminals accountable, and enforce crucial UN resolutions, including Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Recent days have witnessed a sharp increase in military activity by forces aligned with the Assad regime and Russia, particularly in northwestern Syria. This escalation has resulted in the tragic loss of 62 civilian lives and left 255 people wounded since the beginning of October. Simultaneously, a significant wave of displacement has occurred, significantly impacting educational opportunities and livelihoods.
Local activists have reported that this surge in violence has targeted vital and civilian areas, including 13 schools, 5 mosques, 5 markets, 5 hospitals and medical centers, 4 Syrian Civil Defense centers, and 5 IDP camps. Additionally, two water stations and an electrical facility have been attacked, compounding the humanitarian crisis in the region.
