Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, has emphasized that the PYD terrorist militia serves as a front for the PKK terrorist organization, which controls parts of eastern Syria.
In remarks to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Åžafak, Barakat highlighted that the PYD terrorist militia is perpetrating various forms of war crimes against the population in the areas under its control. These include killings, forced displacements, demographic change, arrests, brutal torture, and the recruitment of child soldiers.
Furthermore, Barakat underscored that any pronouncements by the PYD militia lack legitimacy and do not serve the interests of Syrians. Rather, he contended, the militia aims to impose a political and geographical reality rejected outright by the Syrian people and the SOC.
Expressing astonishment, Barakat criticized the ongoing support from the American administration for the PYD militia, particularly as Washington professes backing for a political resolution and the implementation of UN Resolution 2254. This resolution reaffirms the unity of Syrian territories and people, emphasizing that Syria’s future lies solely in the hands of its people, without any external force having the authority to impose its will upon them.
Barakat clarified that the SOC remains steadfast in its insistence on the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, which ultimately paves the way for a political transition. He stressed that there can be no viable solution in Syria except through the enforcement of UN resolutions.
