Activists said that a number of young people were protesting in Tartus to condemn Iran’s occupation of Syria after a call for protest was issued by Syrian and Lebanese intellectuals and journalists. The calls followed the Zabadani negotiations during which Iran played the role of negotiator instead of the Assad regime.
Sources said that the Hezbollah militiamen backed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards suppressed the demonstrations in the port city of Tartus and dispersed the protesters by force.
The Syrian Coalition earlier called on the UN Security Council to pass a resolution under Chapter VII demanding that the Iranian regime withdraws it forces out of Syria.
“The Syrian people are not only defending Syria, but also the dignity of the whole Arab nation against Iranian invaders. We are fighting today on three fronts; against ISIS, the Assad regime and the Iranian occupation, which requires unification of the efforts to achieve victory.” (Source: Syrian Coalition + Agencies)
