In a joint operation with other rebel groups in the area, the Free Syrian Army groups have repelled an onslaught by the ISIS-affiliated Shuhadaa’ al-Yarmouk Brigade on the town of Heit in southwestern rural Dara’a.
Abu Abdullah al-Askari, an Ahrar al-Sham military commander, said that militants from Shuhadaa’ al-Yarmouk Brigade launched intensive mortar and tank shelling on the town of Heit in the early hours of today. The shelling was followed by a ground attack by militants of the extremist group on the town. Al-Askari added that they, along with FSA groups, repelled the attack.
Al-Askari added that 15 elements of Shuhadaa’ al-Yarmouk Brigade were killed and many more were wounded in the failed attack. He said the attacking forces were forced to retreat to the towns of Sahim al-Joulan and Tseil.
Member of the Syrian Coalition Khatib Badlah on Monday called upon the Free Syrian Army groups in Dara’a province to stand united against the Assad regime and ISIS, urging them to come to the aid of FSA groups currently battling ISIS in western rural Dara’a and the Yarmouk Basin.
Badlah called upon Dara’a young men not to be misled by slogans adopted by ISIS-affiliated militants in western rural Dara’a, calling on those militants to dissociate themselves from ISIS and its extremist ideology. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
