Five civilians were wounded in the intensified artillery shelling by the Assad regime forces on the town of Sharia in western rural Hama on Sunday. The intense shelling also caused a new wave of displacement of civilians from the targeted areas. Regime forces committed two massacres against civilians in the past two days.
Local activists said that the Assad regime forces carried out heavy artillery and mortar shelling on several towns and villages in rural Hama, including Al-Lataminah, and Kafarzeita, al-Zakat, Tal Alsakhir, al-Janabrah, Tal Hawash, Hasraya, Al-Jeisat, Al-Arbaien, Qalet al-Madiq, al-Jamasah, al- Sharia, Jisr Beit al-Ras, al-Hamra, Bab al-Taqa, Al-Huwayz, al-Hawija, al-Touba, Al-Kirkat, and Al-Twainah.
Local media outlets reported that the intense shelling on Qalqet al-Madiq had forced dozens of families to flee towards the towns located along the border with Turkey. Violent shelling has also pounded northern rural Hama area since Friday night, mainly targeting the southern parts of al-Ghab plain.
Nine civilians were killed and many others were injured in violent rocket and artillery shelling by the Al-Assad regime on the town of Khan Sheikhoun on Friday. Regime forces have recently expanded their rocket and artillery shelling on southern rural Idlib and western rural Hama, causing heavy civilian civilians.
The Syrian Coalition earlier called upon the international community to put an end to these crimes, stressing that these deadly attacks prove without doubt that the Assad regime insists on its bloody behavior and on blocking all political processes sparing the country more death and destruction.
The military escalation by the Assad regime forces came few days after guarantors of the Idlib agreement reaffirmed commitment to the agreement at a meeting in Sochi. The agreement called for the establishment of a demilitarized zone and a complete ceasefire in the region. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
