Fawzi Saleh, head of the transport department in the interim Ministry of Communications and Transport, said that the Ministry had paved 29,000 square meters of streets inside Atma and Al Salama IDPs camps near the Turkish border, with a total cost of $74,000 USD. The paved streets run for around 5.2 km, and were paved with gravel. Saleh described how those living in the camps raced to take a share of gravel in order to surface the floors of their tents for the winter when they become muddy. A child living in the camp said that the gravel gave them the same kind of joy they feel when they get sweets because it will bring relief from all the suffering they endured last winter. The Ministry begun paving streets inside Atmah and Bab al-Salama refugee camps near the Turkish border two weeks ago to solve some of the problems caused by rain and mud and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in the refugee camps. The Ministry said that the project will be completed within a maximum period of one month. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Syrian Interim Government)
