The Emergency Response Coordinators Team in Syria said that they had recorded no fewer than 2,387 breaches of the ceasefire agreement by the Assad regime and Russian forces. The agreement was concluded by Turkey and Russia on March 5, 2020.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Team indicated that the Russian jets targeted populated areas and IDP camps near the towns of Sheikh Bahr and Harbnoush in rural Idlib.
The Team said that the intensified bombardment by the Russian Air Force is a dangerous indicator of imminent military escalation.
The Team warned of military escalation in the region, pointing out that the region is unable to absorb a new wave of mass displacement movement especially amid serious fear of coronavirus outbreak and the inability of the IDP camps to cope with a major outbreak of the virus.
The Team called on the major actors in Syria to ensure an end to the Assad regime and Russia’s violations of the ceasefire and allow civilians to return to their areas. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
