Hundreds of Syrians in Dara’a, Aleppo, Moadamiya and East Ghouta took to the streets on the first anniversary of the chemical weapon massacre committed by the Assad regime in East Ghouta, which claimed the lives of more than 1,500 civilians. Syrian refugees in Jordan staged a sit-in in front of the embassy of the Assad regime to denounce the horrific massacre. In Lebanon, a group of activists called “The walls of Beirut” commemorated the massacre, and around 150 people observed a minute of silence for the souls of the victims and then was followed by the playing of classical music. In Istanbul, Turkey, Syrian refugees organized an event dubbed “Ghouta, The Ongoing Massacre” to re-enact the crime and remind of the horrific scene of the massacre. The event was opened by a short film and a simple theatrical scene played by children who enacted death caused by suffocation. Then activist distributed brochures translated into English and Turkish. The massacre was also commemorated in Sweden, during which 300 candles of the type used by the Swedes as an expression of grief were laid out, while one of the artists performed an expressive dance between the candles wearing a mask.
