Syrian activists launched an online campaign on social media to reaffirm that the revolution continues a few days before it enters its ninth year. The Assad regime continues with its brutal war against the Syrian people demanding freedom and dignity.
The campaign ‘Why the Revolution Should Continue and the Regime Should be Brought Down” highlighted the importance of the continuation of the revolution until the Syrian people’s demands are met and a transition to a democratic, pluralistic state free of criminals is achieved.
Activists published videos showing Syrian citizens explaining the reasons as to why they are still committed to the goals of the revolution and insist on demanding the downfall of the regime with all its symbols and pillars.
The campaign involved the issuance of challenges to friends and fellow activists to motivate the production of more videos. Usually used for fundraising campaigns, the idea of the issuance of challenges is now used to reaffirm commitment to revolution.
Activists published videos showing a group of people talking about the need to continue with the revolution and saying they will insist on their demands for freedom and the overthrowing of the regime.
“I support the revolution because the Assad regime bombed and displaced us as well as detained civilians, women and children and used chemical weapons against the Syrian people in the areas which revolted against its rule,” one of the activists said.
Another activist published a video in which he reasserted commitment to the fundamental principles of the Syrian revolution. “I accepted the challenge because it is the great Syria, not Syria al-Assad. I accepted it so that the Syrian revolution continues and emerges victorious as well as the regime will be toppled and Syria be freed from Assad and his clique.”
“I accepted the challenge because there are more than a million detainees in the prisons of the Assad regime and because more than half a million people lost their lives. Our revolution is continuing until the fascist regime of Bashar al-Assad is brought down,” another activist said.
Institutions and organizations supporting the Syrian Revolution are preparing to mark its eighth anniversary next month. The revolution marked a major turning point in the modern history of Syria while seeking to overthrow the military dictatorship that was established by Assad the father and consolidated under his son Bashar.
