Residents of the town of Al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo held a sit-in protest on Friday, joined by activists and humanitarian workers, to condemn the ongoing suspension of UN aid entry into northwestern Syria across the border.
The protesters voiced their opposition to the policies of the United Nations and the countries that permitted Russia to persist in blocking humanitarian aid. They emphasized their rejection of the Assad regime’s interference in aid delivery through its affiliated Syrian Red Crescent, advocating for the necessity of cross-border aid delivery.
During the protest, slogans were chanted, including “The Syrian Red Crescent is politicized,” “Russia and Iran are partners in killing the Syrian people by all means,” and “We do not accept that the border crossings be in the hands of the criminal butcher of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.”
Earlier, activists and humanitarian workers had staged a protest at the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Türkiye, expressing their rejection of the Assad regime and Russia’s control over cross-border aid entry.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) stressed the urgent need for the international community to find a solution to facilitate aid entry, preventing a major disaster for Syrians. The SOC called for an effective and permanent mechanism to guarantee the right to life for civilians in northwest Syria.
Furthermore, the SOC firmly denounced allowing Russia to manipulate a purely humanitarian issue into a negotiated political matter, enabling the regime to exploit it for political gains.
