Russian warplanes continue to deliberately target aid convoys delivering supplies to Syrian refugees. Activists on the ground said Russian airstrikes hit an aid convoy travelling near the Syrian border town of Azaz in the Aleppo province yesterday, killing 6 people and injuring 18 more. Ten trucks loaded with relief aid caught fire as a result of the strikes, five kilometers away from Azaz.
Local activists said that civil defense teams and firefighters struggled to extinguish the fire that engulfed the aid trucks. Those with critical injuries were rushed into Turkey to receive treatment.
On Friday, 7 people were killed and 10 injured when Russian jet fighters hit trucks carrying humanitarian aid in the same area around Azaz.
Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Mohammed Yahya Maktabi said that Russia’s repeated bombing of aid convoys is a terrorist act that contravenes international law and is not a behaviour to be pursued by a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Maktabi added that Russian operations in Syria are pure aggression targeting mainly innocent civilians, the Free Syrian Army, and aid convoys; which plays to ISIS advantage as it tries to gain ground and advance in liberated areas. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Anadolu Agency)
