Approximately 2,000 Syrian refugees who had fled into Turkey crossed back into Syria on Monday as a border gate reopened a few days after ISIS militants were ousted from the border town of Tal Abyad.
The fact-finding committee accompanied the returnees at the border crossing to ensure they return to their villages.
The committee began its work on Saturday and met with dozens of displaced families from the town of Tal Abyad and the surrounding villages to assess the situation and the conditions that accompanied their fleeing from their homes. It is working on drafting a report summarizing the events occurring over recent days.
Member of the political committee and fact-finding committee Nora Al-Ameer said that “we listened to testimonies from several families and activists about the reasons behind their displacement and the circumstances that accompanied that and also stood on their desire to return to their villages and the guarantees they need for that.
Al-Ameer pointed out that the committee will continue to coordinate with the sides active on the ground to enter Tal Abyad and make accurate and detailed assessment of the situation. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
