President of the Syrian Coalition Anas Abdah stressed the need for a new, comprehensive, and integrated strategy to protect civilians in Syria through cessation of hostilities and the establishment of no-bombing zones.
In a meeting with the Canadian Foreign Minister, Stéphane Dion on Sunday near the Canadian city of Montreal, Abda thanked the Canadian foreign minister for the political and humanitarian support his country has provided to the Syrian people as well as for Canada’s leading role bringing the situation in Aleppo to the UN General Assembly after Russia’s repeated use of the veto in the UN Security Council.
Abda and Dion discussed the options that can be taken outside the UN Security Council which has been blocked by Russia’s veto on all draft resolutions aimed at stopping the crimes against the Syrian people. They also discussed the latest developments in Aleppo and the brutal blockade the Assad regime are imposing on eastern Aleppo.
Abda underscored the fact that the Assad regime is imposing sieges on many rebel-held areas across Syria and carrying out mass forced displacement operations to bring about a demographic change in key areas across Syria after forcing the local population to agree to so-called local truces and evacuation deals.
Abda stressed the need to support education and health projects and the provision of basic services to civilians in the liberated areas through increased support for the programs the Syrian interim government is implementing in these areas. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Office)
