President of the Syrian Coalition Anas Abdah met with the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini at the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels on Thursday.
The meeting focused on the chemical attack in the town of Khan Sheikhoun and discussed ways to mobilize international support for efforts aimed at holding to account perpetrators of the crime.
The two sides also discussed the European Union’s strategies to support the Syrian people, including working with the Syrian opposition and the Syrian interim government to fund its service projects aimed at the provision of basic services to the population and restoring security and stability in the liberated areas.
Mogherini reaffirmed the EU’s continued humanitarian support for the Syrian people, especially in the areas of institution building, local community dialogue, and capacity-building.
Abdah and the accompanying delegation are set to meet with the EU’s Security and Policy Committee at 5:00 PM Brussels time to follow up on discussions of the EU’s role in Syria on the political and humanitarian levels.
Abdah is accompanied by a delegation comprising Vice-President Abdulahad Steifo, head of the Syrian interim government Jawad Abu Hatab, and director of the Assistance Coordination Unit Mohammed Hasno, And Director of Communications and Advocacy in the unit Heba Al-Hajji.
