The Coordinator of the Al-Jazira and Euphrates Committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdulbasit Abdullatif, has strongly condemned the military offensive and heinous actions being carried out by the PYD militia against the population in east of the Euphrates region, particularly in Deir Ezzor province. These actions include shelling villages and towns and imposing sieges on innocent civilians.
Abdullatif underscored that the PYD militia is actively working to sow discord and create unrest among the various communities in the region. In addition to asserting their military and security control, these militias are attempting to exert influence and authority over the region’s society.
He emphasized that the PYD militia will not achieve its objectives, as they are widely rejected by the local population. The numerous transgressions and violations they have committed in the region have led to the unequivocal rejection of their presence.
Abdullatif noted that the PYD militia exploited disputes with some of their allies as a feeble pretext to invade Deir Ezzor province and suppress the revolutionary movement there, particularly following the participation of the region’s people in demonstrations supporting the anti-regime revolutionary movement in Suwayda and Daraa. He pointed out that the PYD militia adopts a similar approach to the Assad regime, resorting to violence against Syrians.
Abdullatif issued a stern warning about the grave dangers posed by the PYD terrorist militia in the region and urged caution against any escalatory actions directed at the eastern Euphrates population. He called upon the international community and the anti-ISIS coalition forces to take resolute and stringent measures against the PYD militia in response to their crimes and violations against civilians, which undermine the region’s security and social cohesion. He also called for the cessation of military support for this militia.
