The Secretary of the political committee in the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdelbaset Abdellatif, emphasized that improving living conditions in the liberated areas in northern Syria remains a permanent and essential item on the agenda of the political committee. This includes areas such as service, security, judiciary, and livelihood at various levels, with a particular focus on internal security and the judiciary.
Abdullatif spoke with Global Justice Syria News regarding the ongoing efforts by the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and Justice, highlighting the SOC’s continuous monitoring and support for the Syrian Interim Government’s initiatives in this domain. He noted that this process is underway in challenging circumstances and amidst significant challenges.
Abdullatif emphasized that the SOC’s endeavors are aimed at reinforcing the role of the Syrian Interim Government and empowering it. Improving the security situation, strengthening law enforcement agencies, and enhancing legal and judicial authority are seen as crucial foundations for bolstering the interim government’s service and economic functions.
He pointed out that the interim government’s efforts, exemplified by the recent investment conference, are part of a broader strategy. The desired empowerment, according to Abdullatif, is the outcome of collective efforts involving Syrian civil and economic organizations, as well as civil society entities. Additionally, he acknowledged the support of friendly countries, with a special mention of the Turkish ally.
Abdullatif expressed the SOC’s clear commitment to advancing the liberated north comprehensively, encompassing governance, economic revitalization, and the improvement of living conditions for the population. This commitment is coupled with a continued focus on keeping the demands of the Syrian people at the forefront of international attention. The SOC seeks to represent the people’s right to change and advocate for a political solution based on UN resolutions. Furthermore, Abdullatif underscored the SOC’s unwavering support for justice and accountability efforts against war criminals, advocating for sanctions against them.
