Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ayman Al-Asimi, said that hundreds of households returned to Afrin and its countryside in last Ramadan only. He stressed that the situation in the region is constantly improving, calling on the displaced to return to their homes.
In an interview with Rudaw Media Network, Al-Asimi said that the SOC’s Vice President, Abdul Hakim Bashar, and SOC’s member representing the Association of Independent Syrian Kurds, Azad Othman, confirmed the return of 1,500 households to Afrin and its countryside during Ramadan.
Al-Asimi pointed out that the living conditions in Afrin are among the best in Syria, adding: “Security in the freed territories is better than in the regime-held areas where the Russians, Iranians, and the regime’s security and intelligence services are present. Moreover, the economic and social conditions are better, as the Kurds, Arabs, Turkomen and other ethnicities live peacefully side by side.”
Al-Asimi assured the people who left Afrin that the Syrian National Army and Ministry of Defense will guarantee the safe return of the people to their homes.
Al-Asimi indicated that the SOC made significant amendments to its by-law in order to strengthen its legitimacy. He stressed that the majority of social components of the Syrian people are represented in the SOC, and that there are no any reservations about increasing the numbers of any component. He pointed out that three new members of the Association of Independent Syrian Kurds have recently joined the SOC, along with the Kurds representing the Kurdish National Council and those in the local councils.
