Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ayman Al-Asimi, said that they received reports about the intention of the Lebanese authorities to deport Syrian prisoners along with their families to the Assad regime’s areas in Syria.
Al-Asimi pointed out that the Lebanese authorities have already begun procedures for deporting one of the released prisoners, adding that seven others will be released soon and the same fate awaits them with their families. He said that this decision will affect everyone who will be released later.
Al-Asimi stressed that this decision violates international conventions on refugees and the basic human rights, adding that the released prisoners were imprisoned on false charges. They will find themselves and their families in the slaughterhouses of the security apparatuses of the Assad regime and its allied sectarian militias after they went through horrors in the Lebanon’s prisons.
Al-Asimi called on the UNHCR office in Lebanon and international organizations to take urgent action to save the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. He stressed that the real solution to the refugee problem lies in achieving a political solution in Syria that guarantees the achievement of a political transition through the implementation of UN resolutions on Syria, most importantly UN resolutions 2118 and 2254.
