President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, emphasized that the top priority for the SOC is to transform the Syrian reality, aiming to elevate the Syrian crisis’s status on the international agenda. This, he believes, will compel major stakeholders in Syria to adopt effective policies towards implementing Resolution 2254 rigorously and comprehensively.
In a statement to the local newspaper Hibr, Al-Bahra highlighted the SOC’s focus on the liberated areas and the Syrian people over the past five months, during his tenure. He emphasized the establishment of communication channels and regular meetings with various Syrian civil and political entities, including civil society organizations and independent figures, both in Syria and Türkiye, the largest host of Syrian refugees. These interactions, he explained, aim to facilitate the exchange of opinions, experiences, and perspectives to build the envisioned Syria collaboratively.
Al-Bahra elaborated on recent meetings with local councils, chambers of commerce and industry, businessmen, the Syrian Tribal Council, Syrian organizations, unions, youth federations, and Syrian communities. He emphasized his commitment to understanding the needs and aspirations of Syrians for more effective and credible action.
Furthermore, Al-Bahra underscored the importance of the political process, emphasizing the preservation and implementation of Security Council Resolutions 2118 and 2254. These resolutions, he believes, are crucial for realizing the Syrians’ aspirations for justice, the rule of law, and a democratic political transition.
Regarding detainees, Al-Bahra stressed its paramount importance to all Syrians and reiterated their demand for urgent progress and a comprehensive solution. However, he lamented the Assad regime’s obstructionism on this issue, which remains a top priority in official and international engagements.
Al-Bahra also emphasized the significance of developing northern Syria, aiming to establish a successful model representing the real Syria in liberated areas through investment promotion and creating a relatively safe and stable environment. He highlighted the need to bolster infrastructure, services, and government institutions genuinely, urging support for the interim government to execute development plans effectively.
In conclusion, Al-Bahra emphasized that realizing this vision would demonstrate to the world and Syrians their vision for a prosperous and inclusive Syria. He stressed the necessity of collective participation from institutions, organizations, parties, associations, unions, and individuals with experience and capabilities to achieve these ambitious objectives.
