The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s Office of Syndicates and Sports Unions held a virtual meeting with the Free Bar Association in the attendance of President Nasr al-Hariri, Vice President Abdel Hakim Bashar, Coordinator of the Office of Syndicates and Sports Unions Abdel Majid Barakat, and Coordinator of the National Commission for the Affairs of Detainees and Missing Persons, Yasser Al-Farhan.
Al-Hariri congratulated the lawyers who were elected in the elections that took place in the town of Azaz in rural Aleppo on Wednesday, noting that these elections constituted a model for true democracy.
He stressed the unity of the common aspirations for which the Syrian people are making tremendous sacrifices for the sake the values of justice, freedom, dignity and the rule of law. He expressed his hope that such work and meetings will continue and that plans will be jointly developed by the SOC and the Free Bar Association in order to serve the supreme national interest.
Head of the Free Bar Association, Mahmoud al-Najjar, said that the Association is keen on cooperating with the SOC, expressing his hope that similar elections will be held by all institutions of the Syrian revolution.
For his part, Coordinator of the Caesar Act Follow-up Team, Abdel Majeed Barakat, stressed the need for cooperation between the SOC and the Free Bar Association in issues such as legal support, the work of the Constitutional Committee, follow-up on the implementation of the Caesar Act, and documenting war crimes. He also stressed the importance of the elections the Free Bar Association held.
The Free Syrian Bar Association held the electoral conference of the Central Syndicate in the cultural center in Azaz in the attendance of the Minister of Justice in the Syrian Interim Government, Abdullah Abdul Salam and representative of the Central Bar Association in Turkey, Yusuf Gunel.
The conference was also attended by lawyer Mohammed Al-Haj Abdullah, head of Aleppo Provincial Council, Abdul-Ghani Shobak, Colonel Ahmed Kreiwi, Director of Azaz Security Apparatus, and several revolutionary bodies, civil and human rights organizations operating in the liberated areas.
The conference was opened by Head of the Free Syrian Bar Association, Yassin Hilal. Elections were held for membership of the new Central Syndicate Council and members of the pension fund for the 2020-2023 session.
Eleven attorneys were elected for membership in the Bar while Mahmoud Najjar was elected Head of the Bar.
The winners in the elections are: Jassem Al-Ali as Vice-President, Fahad Al-Musa as Secretary, Ziad Jamous, Youssef Al-Hussein, Muhammad Al-Abed, Ali Al-Salkhadi, Tariq Haj Bakri, Ilham Saeed, Anwar Al-Fayyad, and Muhammad Fares Saleh as members. The Pensions Fund Committee comprised Aladdin Al-Hamid, Abdel Moneim Al-Suleiman, and Eid Al-Abdullah.
