President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, said that the brutality of the Assad regime and its allies is the main reason for making Syria – according to a monitor report – having the most recorded cluster munition remnants casualties, as a quarter of the victims of these munitions are Syrians.
Al-Meslet added that despite the regime’s track record in the use of cluster bombs, it has renewed the use of this internationally prohibited weapon today. Regime forces shelled Ghafar area in the Roj Plain in western rural Idlib with rockets loaded with cluster munitions. The attack will pose a permanent threat to people.
Al-Meslet stressed that attacks on the Syrian people in the liberated areas by the Assad regime, Russia, Iran, and sectarian militias are encouraged by the international community’s failure to hold the criminals accountable, and giving the killers a green light to commit massacres.
He called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the Syrian people by stopping these daily massacres and to work effectively and urgently to achieve a political transition in Syria in accordance with Resolution 2254, and hold the Assad regime accountable for its multiple crimes against the Syrian people.
