President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Salem al-Meslet, delivered a televised speech to the Syrian people, offering congratulations on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha and wishing that this occasion would bring freedom and victory to Syria and its people, salvation from the criminal Assad regime and its allies and terrorist militias, and prosperity, goodness and empowerment to the Arab and Islamic nations.
Al-Meslet said that “for the 11th consecutive year, the Syrian people celebrate Eid as they engage in a struggle that is unparalleled in the history of mankind, rising up against an unjust, brutal regime that robbed the people of their rights and freedom. However, they are carrying on with their great revolution, showing unwavering determination and unrelenting resolve.”
He also said that “the continuation of this great revolution for more than a decade stems from the Syrian people’s belief that the Assad regime and its enablers will leave Syria sooner or later, and that the Syrian people will turn the page on this dark chapter, and that the great Syria will regain its historical role in the region and beyond, and that the Syrian people will build a new Syria in which the values of freedom, justice and dignity will prevail.”
“The Assad regime and the cross-border militias and thugs it brought in have wreaked havoc and destruction on the country after they targeted its cities, displaced its people, killed and arrested hundreds of thousands of women, children and the elderly.”
Al-Meslet stressed that the Assad regime made Syria at the bottom of all world rankings in terms of achievements and successes. Meanwhile, the free Syrian people, the displaced and refugees, are exceling and achieving spectacular successes in the various educational positions around the world, as they have found a safe environment and a decent life away from the oppression and criminality of the Assad regime.
He added that relief is imminent, stressing that salvation from the control of this regime and its terrorist militias is nearer than ever. “We assure the steadfast Syrian people that the institution of the Syrian Opposition Coalition is the institution of every free revolutionary in Syria, and that we will remain committed to the Syrian revolution’s goals until they are achieved, namely to bring down the Assad regime and its militias, and hand over the decision to the Syrian people.”
“Our enemy is not those who disagree with us, but this regime and those who aids and abets its crimes: killings, starving and displacing our people.”
He went on: “The international community did not act effectively to release hundreds of thousands of detainees who suffer various types of torture in the prisons of the Assad regime, which international human rights organizations described as human slaughterhouses due to the brutal torture practiced by criminals against Syrian detainees whose only sin was demanding freedom.”
He stressed that “the international community bears the responsibility for the continued Syrian tragedy and the suffering that millions of displaced people are enduring as a result of the miserable, inhumane conditions in the camps, due to failure to hold the Assad regime accountable for its crimes, along with the unjustified failure to push the political process in Syria forward and achieve a full political transition in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.”
