President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, expressed the Syrian people’s support for the friendly Ukrainian people who have become a new victim of Russian aggression as has been the case in Syria since 2015, the date of the direct Russian military aggression. Al-Meslet stressed that the Syrian people are the ones who feel the suffering of Ukraine and its people the most.
In an interview with the Turkish Anadolu Agency, Al-Meslet said that the international community swiftly acted when Russia attacked Ukraine, unlike in Syria over the 10 years of the regime’s war on the Syrian people. He said “There is a big difference and double standards between the response of the international community in Ukraine and its response in Syria.”
Al-Meslet made it clear that the West had made a mistake in tolerating Russia’s crimes in Syria and its repeated use of veto in the UN Security Council. He called for adopting resolutions that would limit Russia’s use of its veto in all issues in which it is a party.
Al-Meslet stressed the need for the international community to show a firm, decisive stance against the expansionist, aggressive policies of the Russian regime, especially in Syria and Ukraine.
