President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, Salem al-Meslet, stressed that the statements that the Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak attributed to him were inaccurate, adding that parts of these remarks were distorted. He denied that he described the popular demonstrations that have recently taken place in northern Syria as the work of instigators and provocateurs.
Al-Meslet said: “Our position on the protests was clear from the outset as we in the SOC stressed that the continued peaceful demonstrations are evidence that the revolution is still alive in the hearts of the revolutionaries. Indeed, the protests stemmed from the Syrian people’s genuine commitment to their revolution.”
“The demands of the SOC and the Syrian people are the same: pushing the political process forward, implementing UN resolution 2254, and holding the Assad regime accountable for its crimes against the Syrian people. Any demand that the free Syrian people make will be one of our demands.”
Al-Meslet stressed that “the SOC is part of the Syrian Revolution and its mission is the political representation of the Syrian people. We will never deviate from the revolution’s goals for which nearly a million Syrians sacrificed their lives and millions more were detained and displaced from their homes.
