Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Al-Shihabi, stressed that the Assad regime is committing a war crime against the residents of the town of Al-Bab, where more than 350,000 citizens live, by cutting off the water supply.
Al-Shihabi pointed out that for more than five years, the Assad regime has been seeking to deprive the population of water and decertify the land by stopping the pumping of water from the Ayn al-Bayda and Shebaa pumping stations, which were the only water supply in the region.
Al-Shihabi stressed that these practices constitute a collective punishment against the civilian population for supporting and participating in the Syrian revolution.
He pointed out that the Assad regime practices lying and deception by calling for restoring water supply to Al-Hasakah province. He made it clear that water shortages in Al-Hasaka came as a result of the regime’s cutting off of electricity to the Ras Al-Ayn area, which led to stopping the extraction of water from Allouk wells and thus stopped pumping water to Al-Hasaka.
