President of the Syrian Coalition Anas Alabdah said that the Kurdish National Council (KNC) is an essential component in the Coalition, reiterating the Coalition’s commitment to the document signed with the Kurdish National Council. Alabdah said that the Coalition will seek to incorporate this document into the constitution of the new Syria.
Alabdah made his remarks during a visit by a delegation from the Coalition to Qoushtaba refugee camp in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region on Wednesday.
Alabdah pointed out that the Coalition delegation exchanged views about the latest developments in Syria and the region, especially the Geneva talks on Syria, with President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani. He said that the two sides agreed to enhance coordination between the Coalition and the Kurdistan Region, especially with regards to better meeting the needs of Syrian refugees in the Region.
During his meeting with Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan Region, Alabdah said that the Coalition has been reaching out to relief organizations and a number of countries to secure more aid to refugees. He praised efforts made by the administration of the Kurdistan Region to meet the Syrian refugees’ needs.
Alabdah said that regaining freedom usually comes at a high price, such as being forced out of one’s homeland, pointing out that the Syrian people have been fighting on multiple fronts and have made immense sacrifices to regain freedom and dignity. Alabdah lamented the lack of serious will on the part of the international community to find a political solution in Syria or to force the Assad regime to abide by provisions of the ceasefire agreement.
Alabdah stressed the need for the Kurdish National Council-affiliated Peshmerga forces to enter Syria as this will maintain civil peace and coexistence.
Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan Region described their suffering and the conditions they live in to the visiting delegation and thanked the Coalition for the visit. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
