Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Noura Alameer reaffirmed the Coalition’s support for the protest movement by residents of the town of Maaret Alnouman in rural Idlib against Alnusra Front.
Alameer said that the Maaret Alnouman protests have breathed a new life to the revolution against tyranny and oppression by rekindling public movement and activity. Such protests express a clear message that no one can defy the will of the Syrian people to speak up for themselves and make their voice heard, she added.
Alameer stressed that the Maaret Alnouman protests represent the real war on extremism, calling on the Syrian people to keep the popular movement alive and show that the will of the Syrian people will not be defeated.
Militants from Alnusra Front in March attacked a peaceful demonstration in in the town of Maaret Alnouman, prompting the Free Syrian Army fighters to intervene to protect demonstrators. Alnusra Front responded by arresting a number of protesters and also attacked the headquarters of the 13th Division, the major FSA-affiliated group in the town. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
