Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Abdul Ilah Alfahd said that the goal of the Syrian revolution is not to share power with the Assad regime, but to establish a state based on equal rights, freedom and dignity.
In a meeting with the new Dutch special envoy to Syria Gerard Steeghs on Tuesday, Alfahd said that the Assad regime and Russian air forces bombed the aid convoy near the town of Urum Alkobra to deny aid to civilians in the besieged parts of Aleppo.
Alfahd pointed out that the Assad regime believes only in a military solution to the conflict, adding that regime forces violated the truce over 254 times over the past week. He noted that the Coalition as well as FSA and rebel groups agreed to the truce announced last week out of their desire to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people despite suspicions about the regime’s intentions.
Alfahd said that the Assad regime continues to impede the delivery of aid to the besieged areas and has lately stepped up attacks to force residents of these areas out of their homes. He noted that the Assad regime, backed by Iran, seeks to empty the Damascus suburbs, Homs and the coastal area of its indigenous population in order to connect those areas with the areas under the control of the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.
Alfahd pointed out that having lost all influence in Iraq and Libya, Russia is seeking to restore its glorious past as a superpower at the expense of the Syrian people. (Source: Syrian Coalition)`
